Orthognathic surgery

Orthognathic surgery corrects conditions of the jaw and face related to skeletal growth, cleft palate, sleep apnea, or orthodontic cases that cannot be easily corrected with braces. Bones of the face and/or jaws are surgically realigned into a better anatomical position. Sometimes, rigid fixation devices are used to hold the realigned jaws in place.

There are many steps involved in orthognathic surgery:

  • Consultation
  • Diagnostic work-up (study models, photos, X-rays, CT scans)
  • Case coordination with your orthodontist
  • Surgical planning
  • The procedure – usually done in a hospital setting
  • The follow up – you will be seen for frequent checks to monitor progress

Our physicians work as a team when planning your orthognathic surgery case. Typically, both doctors will perform your procedure at the hospital. Oral surgeons Dr. Stobaugh and Dr. Metz will give you personal attention throughout your care. Call or email us to schedule a consultation to visit with the doctors one-on-one to discuss your individual needs.
